Just putting this out there.Like the title says ...I have a 93 f150 5.0 and rpms would run up and delayed hard shift from 1st to 2nd(darn near give you whiplash...So,I pondered ran codes etc.Bunch of codes.Anyway...I figured the accumulator in the valve body was sticking ( broken spring) or shift pack solenoid was burnt etc. Replaced the Coolant temp sensor (in the front kinda below front of throttle body.Replaced it because of the one symptom i had.No,I didnt have black smoke or overheating engine...Just massive fuel consumprion.Runs like a scalded ape now.Took about 50 miles to get the full effect (plugs burn clean)...but,it shifts thru all gears like new and gets nearly 5 more mpg...I Kid you Not.So,if your contemplating a 2800 tranny replacement...at least consider this $30 lifetime part 1st.
