Cleaned the EGR valve, found it was partially blocked by a misplaced gasket. EGR valve functions properly with a vac pump. I got no vac during self test or at 3500 rpm. Checked the egr control. Got vac from manifold but nothing from controll valve, hot wired, still nothing. Applied vac with pump, would not hold any vac. Looks like the EGR control valve is broken internally. Ill pick up a replacement next week.

Well some improvement but no gold. The EGR is now operating properly, no codes passes all functional checks. Im a little less ping but still get it on 3/4 throttle. Ok in passing gear. What do you thing about the o2 sensor? Maybe reading richer than it should?

I change mine at 40k. Would not run one more than 60K. I'd Seafoam the combustion chambers too.

Fuel pressure test would be good, including bleed down time to see if any injectors are hanging.

From the condition of the other consumables on the truck when I bought it I wouldn't be going far out on a limb to say that this is likely the original sensor. Think ill hit that and the cleaning on the next paycheck. On the plus side Im well on the way to a new truck. The engine was rebuilt before I bought it, I had the trans re-manufactured. I rebuilt the rear end. New break system, new power steering, new hoses new alt, new batt and cables new seats. Paint is next on the list. IF I can just kill this ping.

Is your knock sensor bad, I don't know if it would show up on the code scans or not.

I cant find a knock sensor on my truck. From what Ive read not all have them on the 1990 5.0. Ive tried tapping the intake to with a wrench to see if the timing changes but didn't notice any difference. Do you have a diagram or photo? I also found a vacuum canister at the front left next to the radiator. It seems to be connected to the cruise control via a tee connector. There is only 1 line connected, the other side is capped. Shouldn't there be 2 lines on a canister? Is this even suppose to be here?

Do I need a 4 wire o2 sensor? There are 4 wires on the engine harness (one for heated sensor) but there is a 3 wire sensor on the pipe. It came off rather easily so it may have been replaced once. So 4 wire or will 3 wire work fine?

I think 93's supposed to be heated. Anybody know for sure?
