Default Jerking under load

Ok, as the title says, my truck is jenking when accelerating or going up a hill. Also it seems to be random, not just when it shifts. Its an automatic,5.0, 1992. I have been told it could be the fuel filter or pump, or a sensor or a clogged cat or the torque converter. I have checked the atf and recently had the TPS replaced. No one around here can check the codes on a 1992. The only shop that could closed. Any ideas, advice, anyone else had this problem?

By your description of "jerking", it sounds more like "trailer-hitching". Yes, a dirty fuel filter can/will cause the same sensation of pulling a trailer that starts getting squirrelly on you. As well as a TPS. But you mention replacing the TPS recently.

Probably the not the fuel pump as it seems to be fine at other times. I doubt a clogged catalytic convertor. That seems to be a popular assumption with drivability issues. If your cat gets clogged it'll get red hot.

Autozone and all the other pretty box stores, as well as Amazon online, can order you an OBD-I scanner for cheap compared to guessing wrong.

Addendum: The E4OD like it's predecessor, the AOD, while it's in OverDrive will give you a shake, shimmy and rock and roll if the RPM'S are too low as well. Try dropping out of OD when the "jerking" starts up.

Turns out it was a shorted plug wire. Cheap and easy fix. Praise God!
