Default Jerking '89 5.0

While I'm cruising, it can be 55 or it really doesn't matter...the truck will sometimes jerk. What I mean is that it's like it loses all fuel for a second and jerks.

It seems to idle weirdly sometimes too but doesn't stall out. This morning my wife thought I was revving it up outside and noticed that no one was in it haha.

Any ideas?

I just bought the truck. It has new plugs, plug wires, air filter, fuel filter, fuel pump, and I just changed the oil and put a new distributer on it. Also has a new alternator and a starter.

I'm stopping by tireman after work to have them check the codes.

Update:

Took the truck to the shop and they were unable to get the codes using their
$12,000 snap on tool.

I bought a tps and I'll see how that goes.

Guess a $12,000 code reader is no match for a piece of wire and the ability to count.

At least on OBD1 vehicles.

Here's another theory as to my issues:

This morning the truck was acting up. After it sat most of the day after being ran it seemed to run and idle fine.

When I took the throttle assembly off to change the tps I noticed that the gasket didn't look so good. Is it possible that when the truck is 'cold' that because the gasket is junk that its sucking air and causing these issues?

I plan to replace the gasket also.

When its child take some carb cleaner and spray around ask the gaskets.if it idles up or changes then you know there's your leak

More towards the weird idle problem than the jerk - I've had to clean the IAC solenoid several times through the years, due to carbon crud buildup causing what was presumed to be sticking problems.

Pretty simple - remove the IAC, shoot the passageways until clean and the piston inside moves freely, inspect the gasket, reinstall.

As for the jerk - have had the TPS fail and have had crud buildup on the spark plugs that caused this.

Thanks for the info. I changed the tps and that seemed to fix the problem.
