Default Items for a timing bump

I'm looking to do a timing bump on my truck and was wondering what do I need?

96 4x4 XLT
302 with K&N Intake and flowmaster exhaust not duals

Right now I have on stock cap rotor plugs and wires, do I need a hotter coil to do this? Also I live in California so I need to be able to smog it. I think that I have to have it at stock timing for smog so I will have to back it off whenever I get it smogged in a year.

Yep. just set to 10BTDC before each test. I take a socket & timing light w/ me & reset to 16BTDC afterwards, right their parking lot.

After you do the ignition system upgrade, it will allow you to increase your plug gap, therefore your spark kernel size will increase. This will also decrease your HC's at testing, because it gives you a more complete burn. I tested .01PPM HC last time in my 87' 302, in sunny Calimexifornia.

Not sure about OBD2's. But if you have a distributor & a SPOUT Plug, you should be good to go.
