Intermitent dead battery?
Ok I ****ed up. While unbolting the lower alternator bolt, it stripped. I pb blasted it, heated it and vise gripped it. All it did was strip the aluminum. So I just blew it out with a torch. That's where I efed the pooch. Now I either pull the bracket and drill, or upgrade to the higher amp alternator.
Only prob with the higher amp one is it uses one 3 pole plug and one battery + terminal. The original uses two 3 pole plugs. Any one know what wires to splice to just upgrade. I'd rather upgrade for the reason of lights, double battery, and a winch.

maybe I'm dumb and stating the obvious, or dumb and misinformed... but I don't think your vehicle runs off a battery. I always suspect the alternator first when accesories run poorly. I am under the impression that your battery starts your truck, then your alternator runs your equipment.
Warlock spoke truth. Now that you ran around on a bad Alt, your battery likely suffered its death.

Your alt is die-ing, your highway miles just fooled you into thinkin it wasn't. Or bubbabud is dead on and your belt isn't turning your alt. Either way, I'd keep a close eye on that battery. Start checking all of it. Poor alternator charging cycles take a deep toll on auto batts. They will survive long distance trips, but will suffer tremendously in typical daily use under poor alternator operation. Your battery was likely asked to do the alternators job, when you stop driving long distances, it'll bite the dust. They aren't meant to discharge at that rate without proper regeneration. The battery may survive if its oversized or newer, but beware. Winter is coming, cc amps matter.
Obviously no one is reading the whole thread.
I'm already changing the alternator, but a bolt stripped. So the question is no longer on weather the alternator is bad. Keep up people. It's weather I can switch to the higher amp one with my wiring harness. Go back and re read my last long post and understand.

Well in the process of taking the old alternator out I sheared the lower bolt. Then while trying to remove the smog pump to get the bracket out another bolt was gonna shear off. So I just used a torch to cut the bolt out. Got everything back together and it is charging higher than ever. It used to charge down around or just below the n in normal, around 1/3 of the scale. Now its running up by the m which is over halfway on the scale.
