just put a K&N drop-in in the filter box already there. You will see much better results..

Adding the extra cost of the parts to change to a FIPK style air tube wont matter at all...the ACT or Air Charge Temp sensor is located int he Intake Manifold and reads its temps from there....unlike others that read from the air tube...so changing filters and tubes wont have the same impact as others...

I honestly dont believe the open style make as much as difference as people think...you gain 99% of the gain just with the K&N style not the open tube as you still have a much higher chance for hot engine air to enter the tube...

Performance can come from colder more dense air...but at a cost of MPG...I have done it both ways and prefer the drop-in over the modded tube.

Dr. Bowtie makes a good point. But... if you really want the conical K&N filter without a complete kit, you can get the K&N filter #RF-1012. It's the same filter that comes with the complete kit for our trucks, but costs about $50. Use a couple pieces of exhaust pipe to connect it to your existing hoses and you're all set.

when i had the car i built a CAI for it and got like 5 hp out of it and like 6mpg gain. i have the K&N filter drop in in it but it does seem to do anything i took it out and put the stock back in it and it didnt make any difference. so i want to convert it to open filter and see what that does.

the 2 to 1 intake tube is off a new 95 or 96 f150 and the rest is off the shelf at an auto parts store. I did relocate the washer fluid/ coolant rez. I got better throttle response for sure, I'm a bit harder on the gas pedel, so no real inprovement the but also not worse.
