Ignition Problem
1990 F150 Lariat 4.9 straight 6 engine, manual transmission. I was driving down the road a couple of weeks ago and went to use the windshield wiper switch which fell apart and shorted out. When I parked the switch was still shorting out and the truck died and wouldnt start again. After towing it home I replaced the ignition switch and made sure the rod and actuator in steering column is good. It won't even turn over, but the battery is good and headlights come on. When the key is turned to run no lights come on or any normal sounds happen. I am trying to replace the ignition module on the distributor but I can't get the distributor off. I bought a distributor wrench but its very tight and hard to get to the bolt. I could use any suggestions about how to get it off and what size socket to get the ignition module off. Thank you.
Have you checked all the fuses? Before removing the distributor try replacing fuses and see if you can get the truck to turn over. If there is no power to the starter the truck will not turn over. A new distributor will do you no good if the truck will not turn over at all.

My question is how did the wiper switch coming apart warrant changing out the ignition switch? Did you replace the key cylinder or the ignition switch? Either way it sounds like the ignition switch is out of adjustment or the rod is not in the slot right or you have an electrical issue that is keeping it from cranking not a distributor problem.
