Just broke something in my ignition , I can turn the key all the way forward before the fuel pumps prime, I was wondering can this be the switch or the lock cylinder

Is this in a 1990? (or anything 1987 to 1991). If so you probably have the dreaded broken actuator rod. A fun thing to replace.

Maybe you are lucky and it is something simpler. At any rate you will probably have to remove the plastic cowling from around the steering column and investigate. Two screws accessible from the bottom to remove the cowling from around the steering column.

I notice you call the steering column trim a cowling. Are you an aircraft mechanic or is that the proper term? I know that is a term we use at Southwest Airlines.

No, I am not an aircraft mechanic, I am a shadetree mechanic. I'm not sure what the proper term is, if I had my Haynes repair manual handy I would try to look it up. Maybe later.

My 89 is in the shop right now for the same issue, except my ignition is extremely difficult to turn. Estimate cost $200.00. I will post when I get the truck back
