Default Idle very high and shift issues

My 92 f150 with 302 automatic idles very high (around 2000 rpm ) when in park or neutral. Rpm drops when shifted to r or d but, with a hard clunk. It still feels like it is pulling hard when stopping. Also I do not believe it is shifting into OD. Watching the tach for the shifts I clearly see 1-2 and 2-3 but, not 3-OD. What is the right rpm for it to shift to OD? I have checked the fluid, looks good. I have also turned off the OD and have no difference in rpm. Any ideas about the high idle rpm? Any help would be appreciated.

Sometimes a vacuum leak can cause high idle rpm. Just something to think about

Do you have the E4OD transmission? (as opposed to the AOD transmission). I would suspect your Throttle Position Sensor is bad. If you replace the TPS, use only a genuine Ford part.

when changing the tps or throttle body postion sensor I usually change the Air Idle Control valvle the same time. together they might help but a vacume leak could be the issue to if you pop the hood run it for a minute when you turn it off jump out and listen to the engine some times you can find a hissing sound if its a vacuum leak or have someone else turn it off and on while you listen for it

Thanks, it was the TPS. Replaced it and everything is back to good.
