Default How much tire is safe for stock wheels?

Hi guys, I have a 1994 f150 4x4 with the 302 V8. I have a 2 inch leveling kit and a 2 inch add-a-leaf sitting here for the rear, just waiting for me to put them on. I also have some lightly used 33x12.5-LT Super Swampers that I got for a steal at 600 bucks on Craigslist. I know the diameter of the stock 15 inch aluminum wheels is correct, but the Super Swampers are too wide.... I think.... I have heard of people cramming them on.... I think my wheels are 10 or 10.5 inches wide... What are your thoughts on this? I would like to keep this as cheap as possible, because I'm 17 and pay for the truck, gas, insurance everything!

Thanks y'all!

our stock wheels are 7.5" wide. Your 12.5" Swampers need a 8.5" - 11" wide wheel.

I was running some used 33 12.5 15s on a 15x7. Didn't hurt anything. Now I got em on a set of 15x8s, but its not that much difference

Its common in the desert racing world to use the stock ford aluminum wheels with 35x12.5 tires, and jump the truck, they are forged aluminum not cast so they re super strong, you might get more center tread wear but you got the tires cheap, if you want to get some wider wheels, get some wider ones , but you should be fine with those.

I bet racers also use beadlocks and run lower tire pressure. Im just going by manufacturer specs. You can run them on a narrower rim sure, but like mentioned, they wont wear correctly.
Also consider that they will rub pretty bad on the radius arms. Getting new wheels with the correct offset to correct this, is the way to go IMO.

Cragar's are like $50 a piece and you can get a wide offset and wide rim. That's the route I would take.

Dodge also uses 5x5.5 I believe. so look for some 15x8 or 15x10 wheels. factory wheels are 15x7 I believe. you can find some pitted wheels on CL for cheap, And just paint them.
