How hard is it to replace front bearings?
On a '95 F150 manual lockout 4 wheel drive? Looked in the Haynes manual and it mentioned a special tool is needed, but didn't offer specifics. Called an independent shop and they quoted $300 per side. I've done plenty of 2 wd bearings, but never a 4x4
Haven't heard anything unusual noise wise, but noticed a thin line of grease on the wheel, so felt the hub and it was pretty warm.. Not red hot like a major bearing problem....yet!
Thanks guys

300$ a side?? WTH? I can only imagine their labor rate
Doing a 4x4 isn't much harder then 2wd. Just pull the wheel, unbolt the caliper, remove the locking hub cap, washers, outer and inner locknut. You need the special locknut hub socket to do this, I cant remember the tool #. Then pull the rotor with bearings replace and re-torque the inner locknut to about 50ft lbs and the outer locknut to 200ft lbs. You should have zero end play.
