Default Horn sounds without input

Hello--I have a problem with the horn on my 1988 F150. The horn sounds intermittently. It could be parked, and the horn might sound for a few moments then stop. I might be driving, headed straight or turning, whichever, and it might sound for a few moments then stop.

The problem began after I removed then reinstalled the steering wheel (no airbag). I could not correct the issue, so I disconnected the horn under the bumper. With the horn disconnected I can hear the horn relay clicking intermittently under the dash. What could be causing the horn to actuate without any kind of input?

I would say that pretty much explains it right there. You will probably need to replace the horn switch, or possibly can rearrange the switch in it's mounting pad.

I'm not criticizing your work, these things just happen. I had some older Ford cars that did the same thing.

sounds like a wiring issue. you might have to go back and reinstall the steering wheel again.

I learned how to drive a *****’s jeep in the 50s with my brother teaching me. we drove up and down the rows of olive trees on our 500 acre ranch. That Jeep had a FLOOR BOARD horn. I loved to scare the pheasants and geese hiting that with my left foot.
Now here I am in 2017 with a Ford F-150 bought last year as a second owner. The first thing I did was have Audio Plus install a floor board horn, remote key entry that locks doors on engine start up (have 2nd set of keys handy for mechanics that lock keys in truck with windows UP).
If I were you just install a floor board horn. It is so much easier to stomp your foot than to search the steering wheel for a button when that idiot breaked at a green light or sat at the green for more than 2 breaths.
