hood latch catch
This is my 1996 I6. I'm replacing the latch and the cable but was there some kind of U shape catch on this? The hood catches and closes fine but wondering if there is a part that fell off and I never noticed. Reason for the replacement is that they are sticking now and although the corrosion clean up seems to be the answer, I'm figuring new parts will mean no constant maintenance for the future. I am hoping another 20 yrs, although replacement parts will never compare to the factory parts. Parts are from LMC truck. Thanks in advance.
No. The latch grabs the edge of the hood where you see the tiny worn/rusty spot. There's a reinforcing plate welded inside the hood.

No. Replacement parts will need MORE maintenance to last. Factory parts are best. But you have to follow the maintenance schedule, which INCLUDES lubricating all the latches & hinges. Read the manual.
