Default high starting idle

in the morning or after my truck has sat for a few hours when i start it it will start and idle at about 1500-1700rpm for about a minute or a little longer. it runs fine and has always done it since my friend that owned it before me had it. could it be the IAC?

well here in WI since it is cold out it will idle a little higher than normal. it could be a possible bad IAC cause idle should be just below 1500rpm but i would guess it is like a choke on a carburetor, it will idle a little high cause you are feeding mostly gas and not much air and after it warms up it increases the mixture of air.

i would say it is normal and not to really worry about it. my truck does the same thing i think about that high also. if you want just try taking carb. cleaner and pop the IAC off an clean it. and see how it idles after that.

I actually think that's normal. If it was the IAC, it would normally surge, not idle or never idle high. The initial high rpm at start, i'm pretty sure, is normal.

I think idle its little too high .where i live , now it about 35 to 40 degrees morning and my hihg idle only goes to 1000 rpm for less than a min. then goes down to about 750 rpm thats my normal idle . try to check ur ECT. might be something wrong with it.

I have an 89 with a straight 6 and it revs high for a while when its cold. It does it when it is warm but only for a few seconds. Seems normal.
