Unhappy HELP 4x4 issues

Bought a 96 F150 4x4 really cheap. The 4 wheel shift motor was removed before purchase.Big 14" snow this week.Had to crawl under to manually shift and 4 high and low work great.Bought new motor.Still no engagement and no 4x4 or 4 low lights on dash and, apparently,no power to shift motor.Fuse must be fine because it also operates my working power locks. The truck has good working replacement manual warn hubs. The new motor had no wires for,I assume, speed indicator (1 blue,1 brown,1 green) wires that ran from old motor to inside yoke housing rear of 1356 transfer case-wires blanked off and still protruding from yoke housing. Was told by previous owner it was the ECU which I believe should only operate engine controls.
WHERE DO I START-I AM NEW TO 4X4'S BUT AN OLD FORD F150 GUY-HELP
