New here and need some help.
My `87 f 150 still running strong but goes through heater coers all of a sudden. My son changed the last one out and doesn`t know which hose goes where. Does it matter ? If so,which is which

Welcome to the site!

Don't know that there's a right or wrong way to hook up a heater core if the heater hoses are the same diameter size. My preference is to keep the heater hoses from crossing for a neater appearance.

Also not sure what would cause premature failures. My experience has been not to go cheap - resulting from observation that some of the cheapie cores do not have the heat output, leading to decreased defrost efficiency and cab warmth. Suggest to ensure that the core is secured so that it will not move or shift when encountering the various potholes and the like.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Check the radiator cap. It should relieve at 13 psi.
