Default heater core?

So, when I throw defrost on steam comes through the vents, I identify this as a leaking heater core? Correct me if I'm wrong. But what can I do to bypass it? (I'm a broke college kid who loves his truck, winter's almost over dont need heat)

I am a novice mechanic but usually get it done right.

Any advice would be great, she's eating antifreeze like its her job right now..

If you want to bypass it, just take off the hose going to the heater core and hook it up where the other one is hooked up to. You can see if the heater core is actually leaking by just taking the cover off. Taking the glove box out would make it easier, but otherwise, that's all that has to come off.

I understand broke and the bypass will get you down the road, but cores are pretty cheap. Check your local parts store. Sometimes little shops have stuff cheaper. Ask the car and truck guys in your neighborhood, especially the older ones. They might know a good deal. Depending on your location you may really want your heat and defrost.

Well, I live in Michigan (thank god snow fall this was very low) and we're wrapping our winter up here ( mid 40's most days)

so I'd do without till next winter I should have figured it out how to get at it by then and swap it out.

I'm just getting my core replaced right now, I'm to lazy to do it myself but I found a shop that would do it for 170 including core so might be worth getting. Mine steamed out the vents too which makes it extremely hard to see while driving when it's fogged up ! And it leaked inside and outside the truck

Too lazy? It took you more time to drive to the shop than it did to just take it out yourself. lol
