Default header bolts

Was poking around under my hood today and noticed one of my header bolts was half way backed out. Tightened it up and checked the rest and they were all barely tight. I have heddman long tubes part # 89350 I believe. I used the bolts they came with and they seem kinda cheap.

Any good brand of fasteners to recommend? Also can I use permatex ultra copper on the header gaskets?

I've used these before and had good luck.

Stage 8 locking header bolts at bronco graveyard are what I am going to be using.

Thanks for the link Crownman and it sounds like your getting the same ones Trav. My engine ticks every now and then at idle and I think its safe to say that's where it came from.

If you ever get a chance to remove your headers entirely, check the flange surface to see if it's true. That's why they usually back out and/or leak. I check my headers and if necessary, machine them true. No problems yet. This is the so-called "secret" to why vehicles that come from the factory with headers don't have leakage issues.

Also, if you are using the 3/4" bolts, you might want to consider using 1" bolts if your headers and bolt holes on the head are 1" or deeper.

Also, you should be able to use stock gaskets (assuming your headers are rectangular shaped) and not have any issues if your header flange is true and you are using stock or GT40 heads. Also, there are some other header gaskets (will post later) that work very well if you are leaning 100% to something other than stock.

Thanks qdeezie I saw where the bolts were sold in different under head lengths on summit. I'll probably measure mine to see if I can run the 1" bolts. I think I can since the ford racing bolts are sold in a 1" u.h.l.
