GT40 Heads with a MAP System
Good Morning All,
My '93 F150 w/ 302 is coming due for a rebuild, which I hope to take care of this winter. I'm about ready to start ordering parts as I have most everything picked out, but my final question comes down to the heads. As some background, I'm not looking to go crazy on the build, just a very mild cam (Melling 24110, 210 Int / 211 Exh w/ .444 lift), upgrading springs to match, and flat top pistons with valve reliefs for just a touch more compression. I read qdeezie's thread on building a 300hp+ 302 (which is a great right-up), and although I'm not chasing the 300hp number, the mention of going with too large of a cam over-taxing the MAP has me a little concerned with going with new heads. Ideally I have a pair of GT40 heads selected with 2.0" intake valves and 170cc intake runners (it's marginally more to purchase new heads than rebuild my old heads, so I'm opting for new ones), but I'm concerned that these may cause the same behavior from the MAP's perspective. Does anyone have any insight as too whether or not better flowing heads will over-tax the MAP system? For budgetary reasons I can't chase converting to MAF (although it would be preferred).
Thanks for your help!

GT40 heads have been used thousands of times by the Mustang crowd on speed density cars. Been done on F150's of our era many times also. I have 2 sets of GT40P's in the garage. I intend to put one set on my truck and do not anticipate any issues in doing so.
If using the GT40P's know that you will have to check exhaust manifold / header clearance carefully for fit of the spark plug wires. Many headers will fit just fine. I believe that the Ford Motorsport headers are no longer available but they still pop up for sale occasionally.
