Well i never replaced it, i just kept fixing it. Rebuilt twice, new brushes, solenoid, bendix, armature but after a couple months it was giving me a hard time. Just installed the new one and HOLY CRAP! Sounds like a brank new truck. I pulled the old one off and i knew there was a tooth striped, plus the bearing and bushings are worn to nothing, the bendix has about a 1/8th play in it, so it kept on missing and eventually striped the tooth, but the fly wheel is good.

The new one is a WPS starter (world power systems) that make starters and alternators for everything, and has a way beefier solenoid than the stock one. I kept on having heat soak issues with the old one which crapped out the solenoid.

Here is the tumor i just ripped out. I really started having major problems at the beginning of the month, i just worked around the other ones, so i was put off from buying one cause i was promised the new one.

So took the truck out for a good stretch today on the highway since i had the only vehicle big enough to carry all the food and gifts out to my uncles place an hour outside of town. Glad to know i don't have a heat soak issue anymore, since just after i got there, fired it up like it just ran! No slow crank or stutter

Just in-case, with my holiday gift cards and money, i can go get some battery cables, connectors and some manifold heat wrap so i can prevent this sort of thing by beefing up the power flow to the solenoid and starter. Ohh and new mud flaps, its really slushy and salty over here.
