Default The ghost clutch

Just in case, its a 1996 5.0 2wd not sure of the trans. Im stuck???? My truck has 256k plus miles on it im grateful its still moving. The only issue with the trans so far is the hard shifts(which i dont mind) and the really hard slip into 2nd intermittent. Now, out of the blue, when i let off the throttle after 40 mph ( after od has kicked in) it seems the mystery ghost puts the ole manual trans clutch out and it seems to engine brake until between 40-38 mph then releases as normal. Has never done this until now. Wheres ghost hunters when u need them lol. Im thinking throttle valve sticking??? Trans fluid is bright red and smells slightly burnt( i am about 5 k past the scheduled filter change). Its annoying is all and do not want it to lead to other problems. The truck has been very good so far. Any help is very appreciated. I am a ex dodge chrysler jeep tech for 6 yrs but not that good at any trans issues mainly delt with diesel and electrical and of course the warranty. Thanks

Most likely E4OD trans, Before you change the fluid, put some seafoam trans stuff in it, drive it around, then change the fluid and filter, Fords like fresh fluid, the valve body or solenoids might be a little gummed up.

It has lucas in it now, well what hasnt broken down after 40k miles in florida heat. I hear really good things about the seafoam on here. Its the cure all like penicillin. It is actually a little over full now cause it was leaking so i put maybe 1/4 quart over last time and like all good fords the leak fixed its self. So ill have to find a siphon to draw some out so i can add the sea foam. Ill let u know how it goes. I had a second thought on the issue though. Being good at electrical and knowing that corrosion is your worst enemy, is it possible that a weak connection at the battery/ corrosion could be causing this issue? And an added note it does it above 40 mph and then after it seems to release and grab randomly untill around 30 or so. Thanks for the help

I cant figure out how to mark this as solved on the iphone app. It is fixed though. Noticed my check engine light coming on and off. Only came on during highway speeds. Popped the hood like anyone would. even if the window wont roll down, pop the hood. Noticed the vacuum line going to the egr valve broken in half. Dont know how it happened but fixed it quick with a piece of vacuum hose that fits perfectly over the plastic line. Drove for several days and no more check engine light and the trans doesnt hang up anymore. Dont ask me how they are related, but it did fix it.
