I just noticed mine and I am looking to replace my 22 year old canister. I noticed that there are 2 **** that can come off the canister. Are they meant to be off or leave the **** on? The **** are not displayed in the picture.

I don't believe those canisters typically go bad. Is there a reason you are replacing it? A google search should reveal simple tests (with a hand pump, or by blowing thru the ports) to determine if your canister needs to be replaced.
