Fuel pump
Hello all, new member here. I have a '91 with dual fuel tanks, 5.8L. It sat for quite some time, and now can't get it going again. heres what I've done:
-filled both tanks
-replaced fuel filter
-it will fire up and run on starting fluid.
-cant hear the fuel pumps kick on at the turn of the key.
-inertia switch checked out
-fuel pump relay checked out, on another forum I read that a test can be to put a jumper wire between the two large spade terminals on the fuel pump relay and that should turn the fuel pump on (whichever is selected). I did this, and the rear pump made popping noises... switched to the front tank and I thought I heard one slight pop but not sure.
doesnt sound right to me to me but I can't believe both pumps would go out at the same time. I'm beginning to think it's the EEC or ECM. But I'm not a mechanic, just a handyman. Any ideas?

when i first bought my 91 lariat acouple years ago mine was doing the same thing, even fuel pump would just run and would not cut off.The fine folks on this site gave me some tips and i nailed it on the head.It was the ecm,so i went and bought a used one and boy it ran like a brand new truck.Just a little insight on what it may be.I have another problem i am going to post tonight.good luck
My experience is with the 87'. So not sure if this applies to the '91. But mine has three fuel pumps. Check your primary high pressure pump as well as the low pressure tank pumps while you're at it. Could be they both work, but can't provide enough fuel pressure without the primary.
