Default fuel gauge issue

hey guys, my gas gauge was working this morning just fine, i went to leave work at noticed it wasn't working. it was sitting on "E".... i then took the dash apart and then took the instrument cluster out, then took it apart. i noticed that the metal part that the coil goes into with the prongs to plug into the cluster is a blue discolored color. i checked all the rest and they are all silver with no blueness what so ever. so my guess is t get a new fuel and oil gauge due to they are on the same piece. help would b e nice, hopefully soon lol. thank you

Might sound stupid but did you try to move the tank selector switch as in rocking it back and forth and see what happens?

hahaha, yes i did nothing happened. i have no fuel in rear tank and i put 6 gallons in the front tank, brand new pump and tank, did them in summer. im thinking the gauge was going bad because when i hit the brake or gas the gauge always moved.

the gauge moves on mine when i hit the gas or brakes but i figure it's from the gas moving around in the tank

Mine moves also when hitting the brakes or gas. Should be quite common as the fuel moves in the tank causing the float to rise and fall.

Slosh and gauge movement is common, thats also a good indication the gauge works.

when i disconnected the instrument cluster as in both wire connectors on back side, the gauge went all the way to full, so when it gets power it goes to empty. also like i said the silver case is all blue with little black on it to which is why i think it burnt out, the oil gauge does not work either and they are on the same bored.

Sounds like the cluster took a crap on ya. If I recall ford had a problem with clusters in the 90's with a couple of thier cars and trucks. I would try to find another cluster and either swap out just the gauges or the whole thing. If that's not it then well I would start checking the wiring.
