Default Fuel filter conundrum

I was trying to change my fuel filter and I was able to disconnect the quick release connector on the engine side of the filter easily. However, I had problems with the fuel tank side. I tried for thirty minutes and finally got it separated but that retaining clip inside fell out. So I went to Carquest and bought a Dorman quick help replacement and reinstalled that clip along with the retaining ring.

Installed the new fuel filter, checked both fuel lines and turned the key to prime it. Fuel spilled out of the fuel tank side of the connector. So I go back to Carquest and buy a Dorman replacement connector and cut the old connector. Well the conundrum is the Dorman part has a larger opening compared to the OE Ford connector. So back to Carquest and buy another fuel filter with larger and smaller nipples. I found one Carquest p/n 86300 fits perfectly but the fuel flow direction is reversed. The truck runs fine and there's no fuel leaks.

I am trying to find a similar fuel filter with a reversed fuel flow direction. Here are my choices to fix this....find the correct Dorman connector that is OE sized and use the correct OE fuel filter; use the other Dorman connector(you get a set of two) cut the engine side connector and find another filter to fit both replacement connectors....what should I do??

You should NEVER cut a '92-96 fuel line. They're armored with braided stainless wire, which can't be re-attached to any replacement fitting. At worst, you only needed to put the O-rings back into place in the original stainless fitting, as this diagram shows:

I'd browse the local JYs for a replacement line from a '92-96 F150 with the same wheelbase & number of tanks.

Find the correct oe sized Dorman connector so basic fuel filter may be used. It is made as my supercharger kit adds a fuel pump in line with line and oe style fittings.
Good luck with your endeavor! Quite a lot of headache for some preventative maintenance.

I had to call the Dorman tech line to get the proper size connector; after I got them and replaced the wrong connector with the proper size, the filter fit perfectly....
