Default Four Wheel Not Working

Pulled tractors out of mud and used the 4x4 to help other people. The other night when I needed it because I was stuck, no go. Pushed the button and only felt the brake peddle pulse. Not sure where to start. I have the Haynes and can find my way around the motor pretty good but like I say, I've no experience with the 4x4. Other than the 4x4, truck runs decent. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

maybe this only pertains to 4x4s with manual hubs and that engage with a lever (as opposed to a button) but i would probably start with jacking the front up, engaging the 4x4 and spinning the main drive shaft. you should be able to see whether or not the front drive shafts turn.

i take it you have auto hubs and a push button transfer??

could be the actuator on the transfer went out. get under it check the wires see if you get power to it. and also just put your hand on the motor and have someone engage it and see if it turns.

if everything is good there might be the autojunk hubs acting up.

Thanks. Any advice on replacing the autohubs with manual hubs? I've heard pros and cons and am leaning towards manual hubs but I'm not sure if the manual hubs can replace autolockers.
Thanks Again.

you can replace auto hubs with manual ones. do a quick search i know multiple people have written about it recently. i think there is also a video of a hub swap in that "informational video" thread that ford truck nut started
