Default flashing red light

There is a harness with a plug in (flat) male end directly below the fuse box on my 1996 F150. It is flashing a red light and I can't get the starter solenoid to energize by keyed switch. I can jump power to solenoid coil and engine starts. What is the harness mentioned above and what does the flashing light mean? Any help will be appreciated.

Did your truck have a remote start before? Which fuse box, under the hood or the dash? Have pictures of it?

The harness in question is under the fuse box in the cab, bottom left under the steering column. The male spade type plug is flat and can be pulled out , turned over, reinserted and nothing changes.

Well if it doesn't make a difference then you have an electrical problem elsewhere, that wire must have been for an accessory of some kind. are you jumping it from the fender relay or the starter solenoid?

Possibly the internal switch is bad, I think its less than 15$ to replace, good place to start since the truck does start.

Thanks. I'll try that and go from there.
