First Long Trip
I'm taking the family camping in Vogel State Park in Georgia in July. My 95 F150 4X4 with a 302 runs great but I want to make sure we have no issues. Since I've owned the truck (2009) I've had the radiator, tranny and differential fluid changed. I've also changed the oil and will do so again before I leave but is there anything else I should be thinking of before leaving?
We will also be dragging along our little popup camper. In the past our longest trip has been out to the mountains of VA which is only 6 hours at the longest so I've kept the OD off (mountains) and the speed around 55/60. I don't have a tach so sometimes it difficult to tell if its shifting in and out of OD and I didn't want to tear up my tranny. The popup is 1100 pounds dry to maybe 1500 loaded. Then add all the crap my wife brings plus two kids and dog. Do you think there should be any issue with letting the OD stay on thus saving me some $$$ with gas? We will be traveling from Virginia to Georgia so its all flat ground.

leave OD off, its recommended to leave it off whenever towing/hauling anything of considerable weight. considering your going to have around 40% (depending how much stuff your wife brings) of the trucks max towing capacity, it would be a good idea to just leave it on and give your transmission one less thing to worry about.
