Finally figured out the noise.
I took my F150 to a different shop than the one I took it to last year. It is a transmission shop. They were able to narrow down the noise to the left front wheel area. They put it on a lift that raises the truck by the axles and they were able to listen while the truck was in the air.
They removed the wheel and when they tried to remove the hub, to inspect the bearings and seals, they had a difficult time getting the nut off the spindle. At some time in the past, it must have been forced on and cross-threaded. When they removed the hub, they noticed that the rear seal was too far in and when they looked at the spindle, there was another seal stuck on it, apparently an old seal that was left behind on prior service.
It is the 2nd old seal that was the source of the squealing noise when I was driving. Apparently, it was rubbing against the rest of the assembly and causing the noise. The shop had to order a new spindle, the old one is no good with the f*cked up threads. Gotta wait until Monday for that to come in, Ford dealers don't carry them in their current stock and it had to be ordered.
Once that is finished, I should have a squeak-free truck!

i know this is an old topic but just wanted to say thanks. i had a noise that sounded like grinding coming from my front end and i read this and ended taking apart my hub. once i got it apart i found two seals on the backside of my rotor. one was the correct seal but the other was unknown. i've even talked to a couple of mechanics and they have no idea what it is or how it was left. the extra seal didn't fit anywhere it just was squished up against the knuckle. hmmm... so i left it out got a new seal and now its good as new.
thanks dewman!
Im pretty sure there is supposed to be two seals. Mine had two when I took it apart and the auto parts store said it called for two. One is a bearing seal thats on the hub and the other one on the spindle against the knuckle is a dust and dirt seal I guess. They did fit together perfectly after I installed the new ones and I havent had any noise issues before or after.
