Default how dirty is this air filter?

... on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being fresh from the store and 10 being 16 yr old stock filter

just curious how old this filter actually is, wondering how much good the new filter is doing

From 1 to 10, I'd give that a 12.

so they aren't supposed to look that dirty when changed at the recommended intervals?

thats a washable/re-usable filter....wash it with dawn dish soap and re-oil it...good to go...

wash it with a hose...from the clean to the dirty side...dont wash the dirty into it...

well, I didn't know that and already put in a new microgard filter... do I stand to gain anything by washing off this dirty one and putting it in instead? and what's this about oiling the filter, was that something I should have done to the other one?

wash it and keep it...it is better than the microgard...

there is filter oil at the parts store....go VERY sparingly on the oil or the MAF will get unhappy...I fog the air above the filter and let the mist fall once the cotton is light pinkish I wipe it all down and then run with it...oil directly on the filter may be too much...

You do not oil paper filters, just the reusable ones when called for.

so the microgard is a paper filter, unlike the old one which is reusable?
