Default f150 starter

I have a 1994 F-150 XLT Lariat having starter issues, but when I hit the starter with a hammer it does no good any suggestions?

If you jump the solenoid on the right fender, does anything happen

Start (ha) with the basics.

Do you have a KNOWN good battery?

As above, with a known good battery or a jump pack, if you jump the starter relay (solenoid is on the starter) does it turn over? If it does, you may have a relay problem.

If it doesn't then you have a starter problem.

These problems could be a simple as bad battery, and/or bad connections between the battery/relay and starter and the ground path back to the battery.

Everything at this point in the starting circuit both high and low current is suspect until you do some systematic troubleshooting.

you mean when I touch the two boats with a screwdriver or something? Which normally would crank the truck if you have the key turned on. Yes I have tried nothing happens clicking same as turning the key

To be precise: Take a jumper cable and jump from the plus battery terminal to the cable post that goes to the starter. If it cranks you have a bad relay right there.

What this does is eliminate the relay as a problem. It "sounds" like the relay is activating but that does not mean it's passing enough current to turn the starter.

Again, back up and verify that the battery itself is in good shape.

A few posts back you said the starter got "stuck". Do you mean it cranked and then stopped and has not turned since?

Yes as in it started up and once it started the starter was stuck for about four seconds you can hear it making a noise. I let the truck run for about 15 minutes, then killed it. I tried to start it right back and it just clicked.

You MAY actually have a starter problem but you need to start with checking the battery and then go through the whole system one thing at a time.

Start by bypassing the relay if it doesn't turn over, then you have a problem down stream to the starter, either the cable or the starter itself or as I said, the ground return.

It may end up with you pulling the starter etc.
