Default F-250 with 4.9. suggestions, comments, what ever...

Ok guys heres my situation...

My little brother needs a rig for the next 4 years of his high school career so I maybe giving him my truck, but with that being said my old man and I want to build or buy a F-250 extended or 4 door with a 4.9L and ZF5 tranny, 4x4, etc. and put my mods from the 150 to the 250.

So what I am looking for in advice is, would it be more practical to look around and find a perfect stock F-250 with the 4.9 and ZF5, then restore the engine and stuff

or to buy an F-250 with a big block or diesel with a ZF5, and find a 4.9, get it rebuilt with forged pistons, bore over, etc. and put it in in place of the big block??

Also, does anyone know of the weight difference between a 250 and 150? One of the best things about my 150 is how light it is and how it can get on top of the deep snow in Idaho... Its my snow mobile

I am kinda looking to hear from fordtrucknut because he has a 4.9 in his 250...

Anyways, any opinions on putting a Built 4.9 in a 250? My old man worries that it wont have enough power to tow the big stuff, but I am wondering what a .40 or .60 bore over, forged pistons, etc. would do for it?

My family has sworn by the 4.9 for over 25 years, and we have always had at least one, so please don't tell me to rebuild the V8....this is a thread about the 4.9 300
the big blocks can eat my 4.9s $#@* lol jk

As always, thanks

the 4.9l came in f250s but iv never seen one myself.

weight difference, my f250 weighs around 6000 lbs compared to my f150s like 4200 lbs or so but it was a 2wd and a short bed compared to my 250s long bed 4x4.

5 speed hands down, my auto cant handle the 460 worth a damn.....

if you put a 4.9l in a f250 and plan on towing anything half decent at speed, get 4.10 gears.....

i personally wouldn't want a 4.9l in a f250, id rather have the 7.3l over my 460 at this point, but thats just me. my reasoning behind not having the 4.9l is because my 460 with 8000 lbs behind me really feels it on the steep steep grades, couldn't imagine what the 4.9l would do....also, im pretty sure my 460 powered f250 would beat your 4.9l f150 in a drag race lol and who dont want some acceleration.

you need a small block to get the trans to bolt up. so look for one with a 5.8 and go from there. they are fairly common

The 4.9 come in plenty f250.... But you would probably rather have a f150 ext cab short bed 4x4. I'm pretty sure those mainly came in 87 to 91. And if you want to change gears to tow. DO NOT put in 4.10. You will be crushing on the free way at 50 and it will kill the gas. 373 at most with a LS you can find those in most broncos. Great thing about the 300 6 is its got all the power in the low end.

Good luck for the search, a mans first truck is his first love

i have to disagree strongly there, 4.10s in my truck is the best thing i ever did, and i got the auto, i can do 70 mph on the freeway all day and only noticed a 1-2 mpg drop in mpg down to 10-12

i really want a 9th gen and we were considering one all the way in Virginia, but after we got pictures it had to much rust , so basically we will travel anywhere to pick up just the right one.

4wd, extended or 4 door, dual tanks, 4.9, 5 speed, low miles, etc.
