Default Exhaust Question !!

Hey guys i just bought a 1991 f150 with a rebuilt 302. the exhaust has so many leaks and such that no exhaust even comes out of the tail pipe !. so i am obvioulsy wanting to fix it and put in a new system. i am going to go from the colector back. my question is is that theres the O2 sensor on the drivers side in that little pipe that goes between both pipes. then after the colector heat shroud deal on top theres a little pipe probably about 3/4" round. at the bottom of this it is rusted off copletely.. i am just wondering what this hose is for and it a can just take it out ? thanks dylan

that metal pipe is for the AIR system it goes up to the back side of the motor where there is a check valve and another pipe that splits into the back of each cylinder head, you can just eliminate it, its just part of emmissions crap or you can just clean it up and weld it back, it wont make that much of a difference either way unless your state still requires your truck to go through emissions test's then weld it back on

When you say collector are you talking about after the cat or is it cut off before the cat? becuase as fr as i know it should be 2 pipes coming off the engine into a resinator and then into a cat so is it cut off at the cat or the resinator?

Its usually a resinator but im not sure on your exact model, just be carefull of were you cut it i know on my truck it came in a weird shape after the resinator and i couldnt weld anything to it because it was like a 3in pipe, your best bet if the trucks exhaust was that rusty and bad im sure the reisnator is bad and leaks as well, i would just start all new maybe get some headers and redo teh whole exhaust that way it deals with both the problems of welding that little pipe and fixing all the leaks i did my truck headers and exhaust for about $300 all depends on if you can do the work.

Trust me id spend the money on the engine and exhaust first before you lift it and get tires, first off a lot easier to work on the engine with no lift and second you want to get it running at top performance before you trhough more weight and stuff on the truck I know you want it too look cool but remember things take time and plan accordingly trust me my truck didnt look the way it looks over night
