Default exhaust question!

alright, so my dad and i wanna just gut my cat converter. its either that or we just take the whole thing off.

what will either of these do to the performance?
will it affect how the truck runs at all?

btw, its an 88 with a 300.

Running wise won't really make a difference, you will just tend to hit the gas more often cause you might like the sound and lower fuel econimy lol

But unless you plan on adding a new muffler or keeping the old one, straight piping a 300 is very raspy and sounds like a tractor puttering along. Something needs to baffle the exhaust coming out of it. I removed my exhaust and left my cat to baffle the sound with a side exit and it works good for me.

Just be sure you are able to remove the cat if you don't have emission laws if thats the route your planning on doing.
