Default Exhaust fix

Hey guys.
I'm a newb who thought I could just cut out his stock muffler and slide in a $24 thrush glasspack with no issues or sweat. I figured I could spent about $30 and get a deeper sound and little more hp no problem......I was wrong. It took hours of twisting pulling and creative language to get the old muffler slid off. I slid the thrush on with no problem but now I have about a 10" off set gap between the old pipe and the thrush. I tried a flex pipe but end is too smal to slide over the thrush (2 1/4 ISD) but fits over the old pipe (2 1/4 OSD). Is there a reducer to connect the thrush to the flex?
What I would really love to do is run the exhaust off the thrush and out the side in front of the rear wheel. Unfortunately I'm a rookie and I'm not sure what it would take to get that installed correctly.
I've also seen were folks have attached a short exhaust pipe to the muffler and pointed it downward pushing the exhaust to the ground under the bed. Is this a bad idea? It would be the simplest solution but I don't know what negative effects there are, if any?
Thanks!!!

I know you don't want to hear this, but take it to a professional, and have him weld it in right.
