Default Engine upgrades

Hey all. I would appreciate so help with my newly acquired truck. Lets just start off by saying, I no nothing about Engines and vehicles really, except how to drive them. I have currently a 1993 V6 4x4 F150. Its got about 160k miles on it, but still running strong. I was hoping to put some money into to make it run faster, with more torque and I was wishing I could get some opinions from this site. So I guess my question boils down to, what you put in it to make it runner all around better.

Thank you

P.S I plan on doing some off roading, but nothing to the real extreme.

They did not put a V-6 in the 93 F150s they had a straight 6. If you want to go faster and have more torque put in a v-8.

Want easy? Bypass the smog pump with a shorter belt will help your milage and power. Goodyear # 4060940 or Dayco # 5060940 worked on my strait 6 w/ac. Only problem I had was that it was going to rub on a bolt that I think was on the alternator or ac so I had to remove a spacer that held the bolt out and put a washer under it instead. Other than that with 160k probably good time to replace plugs wires and distributer top unless you know when it has been done. A friend of mine just got a 88 v8 4x4 for about a grand, you might be better off keeping yours on the road and getting a truck to tear up. Your never going to get v8 power out of a 6, but you have one of the best moters ever built and if you take care of it that motor will last 160k more.

Go here, http://www.fordsix.com/ The problem you will have is if you want more performance with the excellent 300 I6 is finding performance goodies to do it with. Most people don't think of a 6 cylinder when they are looking for power so your over the counter choices are limited. In the end it will be cheaper to go to a V8 if this is what you want. Personally I wouldn't change anything I happen to like the 300 I6 with good care the 300 will go for well over 250,000 miles. My 1995 happens to have a 302 V8, but I would be just as happy if it where an 300 I6 the only thing I would miss is the nice sound of a Ford small block V8.

K&N replacement filter over stock gives a good bang for the buck. MSD 8.5 wires, brass cap & roter. Relativly new ac/delco dbl. plat. rapidfire work very well in my 5L, ??? in a 6 banger. Plugs choice usually ends up a combination of personal reseach and because people mention specific plugs that don't work well much more that what does, a process of elimination. A dbl. plat. Motorcraft is a good default choice. Switch to synth. fluids is working well for me. Of course, these are just one reporters opinions, and not necessarily those of management! There is one $39. purchase that you can not only take to the bank, but will prove very helpful in reducing unnecessary withdrawls. A Ford OBD 1 scanner. Kreagen Auto Parts carries it. In store & online. Although it is a fact that if you throw enough replacement parts at problem, the need to perfom actual diagnostics will be eventually not be required. Unless a new can of worms is opened in the process.
