Default Engine Rebuild

I have a 1990 f150, 5.0, 4x4, 5 speed that I am thinking about rebuilding the engine in. The reason I want to do this is because the rings are bad. So since it will be apart I was also thinking of having the heads redone and the block redone and possiblely bored out if needed at the same time. Just to fresh'n it up and give it a little extra power. Please let me know what your thoughts are on this or should I just keep it completely stock? I Also does anyone know a good shop near Pensacola, FL that would be able to do the work? I know everyone has different opinions so please dont hold back. Thanks everyone.

depends these days it's much cheaper to just get a long block at the local auto parts place...or even order one online...

But its the joy of rebuilding. The most you want to do is get a better cam made for the efi truck with speed density, a mass air cam might be too much.

well I would say if you dont mind the added expence and you are willing to do it then I would opt for rebuiling the engine yourself....

you can do little tweaks like using flat-top pistons and adding a little more compression or even a stroker bottom end kit and getting some more cubes...

I have been building engine for well over 25 years and I still do some but where cost is a concern I do the off the shelf remans....I usually go through the performance division of the local dealership or an online service for factory stuff....

Even Jegs or summit is a good place to get crate engines and they offer performance stuff too...
