Money and patience.
If you haven't rebuilt an engine before, its not something that you can easily do yourself for the first time. How do you know if it needs a rebuild?

Well I suppose that would do it. Because of the work required, you may have better luck finding a used engine with lower mileage than having to deal with and pay for a tear down and rebuild needing to machining the block, new internals, head work etc.
But if you can afford it, its a great first experience and allot more fun. If you choose to do it yourself, suggest you get a friend(s) that know their way around to help out and find a detailed manual for the engine with proper specs, tolerances and the tools needed to do the job. But its allot of work.
