hmm didnt think about clearing then retesting the codes, i figured the cpu wouldnt throw codes if nothing was wrong. im fairly certain your right about the fan being the noise im hearing it does throw some air around, it was just wierd to me that its not always quite that loud. i know the egr system is there for a reason and i wont be tampering or removing it, i just somtimes dream that i wouldnt have to look at repair or replace all the ugly parts that it consists of ( we all have dreams dont we haha? ). i know the motors healthy besides HEAVY cancer in the cooling system, replaced the water pump and backing plate because she died on a hot day uptown last year the water impeller was completely gone except for the shaft that turns it and the plate looked like swiss cheese that being said im afraid the lack of power i was describing is a transmission problem wether it be the solenoids, converter, or the tranny itself i dont know; am i right to think that a faulty shift solenoid would not cause slipping? motors and standard transmissions are my friends, it seems like automatics hate me lol. thanks for the input Warlockk

No problem. The reason for clearing is temporary issues will se a code. We are only concerned with recurring problems. Also one issue often causes other codes so we want to find the primary code. It was a common problem in my training class. Students would chase the wrong error cor hour before they realized the code was set while they had something disconnected for a previous test. For the fan don't forget, most of the time the clutch is disengaged. Like an electric fan it locks up when the engine bay gets too hot.

The ECT sensor is the reason you're getting such crappy MPG. Change it out. sounds to me like you need to either switch to e-fans or swap out that fan clutch.

it makes sense now, kind of a domino affect with the codes. i havent had the time to pull codes again, as ive been in utah helping a company start up their aggregate crushing and conveyor equipment to make sure they dont screw up any of their equipment they just spent 250,000 + dollars for us to repair for the past couple weeks, ill be sure to check them when i return tomorrow. as for the ECT sensor i dont want to replace it before i can find the fitting that it actually screws into i cannot for the life of me find the name of the part let alone find one.. reason for not wanting to replace is because that fitting i was talking about was pissing out coolant one day so i JB welded that b**** shut. if you know the part im refering to it would be awsome if you would chime in ; ) as for the fan clutch it was recently replaced about 8 months ago, im totally fine with it throwing all that air and noise around so long as its doing its job. an electric fan will be going in at 200,000 miles with a 3 row aluminum rad from here -> http://www.championradiators.com/page/423189798 they have some nice quality parts. more than likely will be throwing in a larger amp alternator to support the fans and the 2 12" subwoofers im installing soonish. Thanks all

Josh
Ps i thought 8-9 mpg was pretty good for horrid hot weather and 31's? lol

well just got back from pulling codes after wiping them clean, and got some good news imo.. got 12, 33 and 123 which is rpm did not reach upper test limits for 12. 33 being egr valve opening not detected and tps sensor being 123. so im thinking/hoping and a little bit of wishing/dreaming (like discussed earlier) that if i repair the TPS sensor it will also fix the rpm test issue and quite possibly the issues ive been having with the tranny also, i would imagine the computer sends the throttle position signal through to the pcm right. as for the egr valve opening not detected, i checked the resistance and got about 5.5 when i applied vacuum until the valve maxed out i got about 2.5 it transitioned pretty smoothly in resistance as i applied vacuum by my haynes manual it says im 1.5 ohm high when vacuum is on, would you think the sensor need replacing? oh yea the harness side of the plug reads out at 5 volts which is good..

have a good day and start practicing bottle popping for 4th!
