Default engine not running right.

ok i just got a call from my friend and he wanted me to come pick him up because his 1992 f150 with the i6 and manual transmission was acting up and he couldn't get home. i got there with the flatbed because we wanted to get it back home. i told him to start up because i wanted to see what it was doing.

he turned it on and it idled perfect. he gave it a little gas to about 2k RPMs and it stopped then started bouncing between 1000-2000 RPMs with the gas pedal almost floored. after we looked at somethings we shut the hood (he had shut it off again) we told him to start it up and drive it onto the flatbed. it started up fine once again, but this time no up and down idle. we ended up driving it home fine.

would a bad TPS cause this problem or a vacuum leak? iv never seen idle bounce around that much before.

Have the codes read, hopefully something printed. Be ready for off the wall guesses from the readers. OK, I'll be the first to throw out a guess. With me down here in Southern Nevada, and in our first cold snap, how about carb iceing, or in your case, the throttle body iceing up. Unusual yes, but not impossible.

alright, took it to our mechanic and it has a blown head gasket. we are guna be putting in a 302 from a 95 f150 since there cheap and so far much more reliable for us. i6 died with 197k miles on it, engine has been nothing but trouble since he bought it at 140k miles.

Just because it has a blown head gasket, doesn't mean the motor died. Lol.

no we are done putting money into the engine. + at 195k miles its not worth spending more time/money on it. we are just guna find a 302 with low miles and rebuild it the way we want it.
