95 F150 4x4 with factory tow package so it has the plug under the cig lighter. Just borrowed a Tekonsha Voyager brake controller from a friend, but it is 4 wire square plug and the factory plug is 5 wire rectangular.
Is there an adapter, or are they model/year specific? Recommendations?

Yes the plugs are model and year specific. If yours is not in the glove box Napa can get the proper one for your year. These generations all F series use the same plug.

 

Thanks for the info. This must be an older unit as it came off a Ford, but the plug is wrong and is not removable in order to change it, so looks like I go buy a new one
