Egr valves rarely go out I would check the sensor first.

To test egr valve start your engine pop the hood look at the egr diaphram inside the housing it's probably orange and rev your engine and if it moves then it should be ok.

Or just take the egr valve off remove the sensor and I'm pretty sure there is a metal post inside it. If it moves up and down pretty easy and you don't see any tears in the diaphram it's good.

I would bet it's the sensor. Once you do all that and rplace the sensor or valve if needed the take the negative off the battery for a little while and let the computer reset itself

Hope this helps

Those are good visual tests to get started. If the diaphragms look ok in the valve and sensor, and the valve moves when you rev the motor, there are other things to continue with.

You could have a bad solenoid - if you have a 5.0 or 5.8 it's on the driver's side valve cover (front one of three located there). Check to see if vacuum is coming out of the solenoid when you rev the motor - just pull the line that runs from it to the egr valve and feel with your finger.

You could also have a crack or hole in the exhaust tube that runs up to the bottom of the egr valve.

Could be a cracked vacuum line or fitting.

See what you get, and we'll go from there.

What year is the truck? What engine?

Question DPFE sensor?

Me an My dad was checking the volted and the egr sensor is giving the right volted back.

Then we checked the DPFE sensor an we got nothing from it?. Could that also set off the check engine light?
