EGR issue.
So I replaced the vacuum canister on the passenger side fender and I still have a EGR code. What should I look for? Are there any common EGR failure points on these? It's a 95 5.8
Eh, yours is a bit newer than mine was, but I'll take a stab at it.
1) EGR valve diaphragm failed or valve stuck. Suggest to hook the valve up to a vacuum source - such a port somewhere coming off the intake manifold with the engine running.
2) EGR control solenoid either not supplying vacuum or not able to bleed off the vacuum as needed to modulate the valve. Just follow the vacuum line off the valve to find the solenoid - mine was on the rear driver-side of the intake manifold.
3) No experience with the differential pressure thing - but have heard some having trouble with one of the ports becoming clogged. IIRC, they used pipe cleaners - sort of a stiff fuzzy twist-tie, to rod the crud out.
4) Mine had a position transducer that sat on top of the valve - had the electrical connector hooked up. This was the higher probability on my vintage of EGR system failures, had to be sure to get the right one, signified by color - grey, black, white, er, I forget, but the color was important.
Good luck, and keep us posted.

Someone's redneck fix didn't work. I decided to look closer and found this. So I got the vacuum line and shrink wrap
but so far my redneck repair has worked. The check engine light turned on and off a few times though... a $40 repair pretty much.. I sucked on the tube going to the valve and it moved and worked.

The best investment I've made is a metavac I bought from harbor freight for 30 bucks... I'd recommend you test all vacuum lines to the EGR vacuum solenoid.
I had a problem with the EGR vacuum solenoid not operating. I'd test that if you've made sure of no vacuum leaks..

My fix is why it's coming on and going off. I can pull it back apart with little force. I'm going to wrap it with duct tape and see if that helps... I just want it to run better and get better MPG. ( I know I know it's a 21 year old truck it's not gonna get good MPG )
