Default EEC bad

1992 F-150 4.9L AOD Was driving down the road and it died. After much testing and finally finding the EEC, I found it, opened it and it had a burn mark. I've got a new one ordered but I am wondering if there is something I should check before installing the new
one. The coil is good, the ICM is good. Fuel pump works when jumped out. I'm trying to think of things to check that may have caused the EEC to burn out. Anyone have any suggestions of stuff I should check before installing the new one? It is a hunting truck so it catches a lot of abuse, maybe the EEC just reached it's end of life time. LOL Thanks in Advance. P.S. I have tried to check out the wires, didn't see any shorts.

could be a pinched wire...a short out will burn out a ECM real quick...highly unlikely it will just do it on it's own...

The instructions that came with the new (remanfg) one said the same thing, they rarely just go out. Still, I could find nothing shorted so I went ahead and installed it. So far so good. Thanks for the reply.
