Default ECU removal

Where is the ECU, and how do I remove it?

I am starting to think it maybe dead or otherwise bad. I was thinking about getting on from a junkyard and seeing if that fixes my problems.

Just make sure you match the numbers up with the one you get with the old one.

I am confused, does this mean it is in the cab or under the hood? Does anyone have any pics?

It is in the cab behind the kickpanel. Why do you think the computer may be bad?

Right behind the plastic pannel where the hood latch is. Needs to be pulled out through the engine compartment. The plast fender is going to have be undone about 1/2 way to make enough room to pulle out. I have a good one out of a 95 f150 302 5 spd

So what numbers have to match? Just engine size and trans type? Or do I need to find the exact year too? Or can it be a short range? Like say 93 - 96 for my 1995? Also my local junk yards tend to have more broncos then f150s, can I one from a bronco?

The computer should have a calibration code on it that needs to be matched up. Assuming all emissions equipment, sensors, and injector sizing stayed the same you can use a different year, but you'd need to verify that carefully before switching. Matching the code is the easiest bet.

Again, why do you suspect the computer is bad?

I used one outta 93 f250 with a 351. Most people I've asked about these computer say there a self learning computer and will most adapt back between each other. My truck is a 93 f150 with a 302 and 5 speed, which my auto that was in it wasn't an electronic shift trany which means the computer doesn't have everything to do with the shifting of the automatic. My other truck the 250 I pulled the computer out of was also an automatic and was a 93 but didn't have a 302 it was 351 which are about the and but not exactly. When I swapped the computers, cuz mine kept shorting out when I went through deep water, I had no issues just kept the battery unhooked while removing the computer and installing the other. Then help the positive and negative together for about 10 second so it would restart the ECU then connected the cables and started right up no issues no problems nothing truck runs perfect through deep water now. And never had an issue with the numbers not matching. Cuz mine defiantly didn't.
