E4OD no reverse, only 1st gear works
Just picked up a 95 ahem e350, bear with me fellas. It’s the 7.3 with the E4od and it has transmission problems. It only has first gear right now.
ive dropped the pan and there were tons of metal filings stuck to the magnet along with 2 shards and a bolt, well I found the bolt goes to the solenoid body. The filter was the dirtiest thing I’ve ever seen, looked like a shop rag after you clean up a fluid spill. I also took out the valve body and I’m at a stand still because I want some opinions.
Y’all think I should pull it and rebuild the tranny? Is it possible that the Mucky fluid/filter prevented up shifting as well as reverse gear from working? Or am I looking at clutch packs?

This forum is for that vehicle, and Mark Kovalsky is an ex-transmission tech:

Had a condition on my 4r70w where it would neutral shift sometimes 2 to 3 and 3 to 4. A rebuilt valve body from Sonnax fixed the issues. It sounds like yours got ran longer with problems but rebuilding the valve body is part of a trans rebuild so it might be worth a shot. The e4od will have an in-line filter that needs to be changed.

Can anyone reccomend a rebuild kit? Or brand? I’m looking for stock feel and shifting and from what I’m reading people like the raybestos.. I’ve also never done this b4 so I’m a little lost.

I’d really appreciate it if someone could reccomend a rebuild kit that is budget minded. As I stated earlier I also need a new input shell. What could cause an input shell to break?
