Also next year, SERIOUSLY considering getting a rebuild or a new engine. Looks like about 1200 for a new engine and about $1900 for a rebuild in my area. So with new Plus labor...thinking about close to $2200?

I think I just have too many problems that things around the engine can't be fixed. 223K miles on it now, no idea what previous owners have done. I get the shakes when accelerating at 30MPH and 45MPH and nothing I do is fixing it. Once I get the engine fixed next year, Ill have more fun with e-fan and whatever else. At least I know the powerplant is working well so I don't have to worry about that when I work on other things like suspension or cleaning out the cabin or stereo....

theres no shame in 223k, especially in a pushrod motor that isnt named 300 or 4.9!
ive been driving my 4.9 last 2 weeks with no fan at all and it is a nice boost to power and economy. the truck is about done being driven until spring but i plan on going the mopar fan route. looks like a sweet setup for cheap.
i would be skeptical of a new motor for the price you stated. i would go for a good rebuild from an honest shop or check prices on a jasper. they are not the cheapest but are a good quality rebuilt unit

Thanks for the tips! Yeah, I've got a lot of time to shop around. SoCal is full of motorheads so for sure there will plenty of competition.

Thanks for the Jasper info. Looks expensive but sometimes you get what you paid for right? And I clicked on the local installer link on the website and theres actually one just a mile away! Who knew!!

This is the price on my seach:
Price: 2773.00
Core Charge: 420.00 Review JASPER's Core Policy
Skid Charge: 15.00
Kit Price: 347.00
Premium Service Plan Price: 255.00

Not sure what the Kit price means and what the service plan price is. Also, on top of this, is it usually cheaper to install an engine like this then to rebuild?

You would come out money ahead if you pulled the motor apart yourself and take everything to a machine shop to be reassembled. Then install yourself.
Most machines shops can rebuild a longblock for ~1500 if you bring them the motor disassembled.

I totally would LOVE to do that but unfortunately I live in an apartment complex with no garage. I'd get a note on my door for sure if I have jack stands on my car for a couple of days I'm willing to do it and learn. Its my fun project car that I like to work on and keep active (mind and hands).

if it were me i would take certain parts to my local shop for checking/machining and consult with them about parts perhaps and do the rest of the work myself. i have a place, tools, and knowledge to do it however.
in your case it comes down to how much you can afford..the jasper service plan is a pretty good warranty if installed by one of their authorized centers. there are other places that sell rebuilt motors as well, i have dealt with jasper a few times and they sell good products. i had my father opt for the extra "balancing" on his boat engine and it was a major improvement. thing was smooth!
i would just be cautious of a 1200 dollar rebuilt motor. was that at autozone or something?

Yeah, I was looking at the Jasper stuff and what I like is the "kit". Pretty much all the stuff I was gonna get anyway and probably a shop will charge me after the fact "oh you need this and that". I'd rather have it up front and budget for that.
No the 1200 was just my googling searches for rebuilt engines. I just searched for 95 f150 5.0L engines and that's the average price. But yeah, like you said, if I have that shipped to a place to do, they will probably just replace mine old stuff with that new engine. I'd rather have something like Jasper do it all right the first time. I'm willing to spend budget and spend the money up front than finding down the line.

It looks like this set-up has a factor connector. Can someone give any info on how to wire it up to a controller? If it helps, I am planning to use this this one: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...KIKX0DER&psc=1
