Default e-fan question.

so i did a tuneup on my kinda new to me 186000 mile truck (Motorcraft wires, champion plugs, napa dist. cap and rotor, timing adjustment, fuel filter, tranny filter gasket and flush, oil/filter change). the truck runs much much better than when i first got it. thanks to all of you on this and other forums for being so frkn helpful. i'm really happy, except that the trailer i want to pull to baja (3000 miles RT) is 5000lbs dry. i think i'll be really close to the truck's limit.
so i think i want to free up some hps by converting to an e-fan. after much reading and thought, i think i'm going to go with a lincoln mark viii conversion. it looks like i already have a "3G" alternator and my local pick n pull has a bunch of mark viii's. what i want to know is:
-are there any other considerations, besides the need for a 3G alt., that i need to be aware of to make this work reliably?
-what controller kit does everyone suggest i use? while i consider myself to be pretty good at following instructions, i have very little wiring experience and good instructions with a lot of pictures would be great. i read that the dc controllers are the best. how comprehensive are the instructions included? i would call them if their website wasnt' down, but in all honesty i'd rather have the opinion of someone not trying to sell them. are there any other controllers out there worth the money?
-and in the end, i'm looking to spend $150-$200 in parts. is there any other place i can get 10-20 HP and .5-2.5 MPG for that amount of money?

thanks, mike

thanks. i failed to mention that the truck already has a tranny cooler. i'm also already convinced that the conversion will free up hp.
just wanted to see if anyone out there has installed a mark viii fan and what to expect.

thanks again.

Im always looking for HP and cooling as well...Im new to the site...but here is a link to what I plan on using. Have done allot of research on this company and its a little pricey but worth it....also you have to make sure your Alternator will handle the extra load...with with pulling more amperage to run the fans you will create heat and take away from your HP. If its not overheating and your looking for HP...you might want to think about a programmer or a chip for the computer..I have a Edge CS programmer, paid 400.00 and was the best money I ever spent.

X2 on wanting to know if it works. I've never even come close to having my truck over heat. But freeing up that little bit of power is always nice. Plus, I'm on my way to doing the tune up you have just completed. Hope to see the gains you saw too

right on. i've read up on the troyers. it's nice to get a kit, everything's included and the instructions are good. however, some folks had some issues with the controllers that are included. also the kit's pretty expensive at $355.
needless to say i don't have $400 for a chip.

another concern i have is the capacity of these e-fans. it seems that a lot of people believe the mechanical fans will always move more air than the e-fans. is that correct, or are there some models out there that will at least match the efficacy of the stock mechanical fan?

i heard somewhere that collectively, you want about 3000 CFM. Or is it 5000...
either way, it's some number a bit higher than the avarage fan by itself will move. so you need two.
