Default do I need a new jack?

Hello. I have 1996 I6 XL. Changing the tire today, the jack shaft has a lot of oil (fluid?) along its wall. I can still spin it easily, even with my hand, but does this mean that the jack is worn out? Can I change the seal or something/find another jack? Thank you in advance.

I can't remember the last time I used the stock bottle jack under the hood, may be once to change the wheel on a trailer. I know I used the tire iron to break some ice last winter.

You can find cheap good quality bottle jacks that work better then the stock ones at any supply store. Personally I would go and buy a farm jack, allot bulkier but way more convenient.

No worries, your stock jack is just oily, its not hydraulic, it works with gears and a screw thread, the oil just keeps it from rusting solid.

Default jack

Thank you all for the answers. For alll these years I kept telling myself to make a bin behind the seat. If I can find a hydraulic bottle jack small enough, I will have to finish that project.

I just saw one today for 20$ at my locally owned tool store here.
